Your Credit. Your Financial Wellness.
Your credit score plays a large role in assessing your financial wellness and health. You can request your credit report each week for free from any of the three national credit reporting agencies: Equifax®, Experian®, and TransUnion®. GSCU recommends you pull your credit report from at least one credit reporting agency every four months to monitor your credit.
Your credit report shows your credit history and score. Lenders, creditors, insurers, employers, and businesses use your credit report to determine whether they want to do business with you and the terms they’d be willing to offer you. Better credit will lead to better rates and opportunities. It is important to check your credit history to understand your current credit position. Checking your credit reports can also help you detect any inaccurate, fraudulent, or incomplete information affecting your credit.
If you spot a mistake on your credit report, contact the credit bureau and the business that reported the inaccurate information. More detailed steps are listed here.
"Working with Granite State Credit Union, I became financially secure as a single woman raising two children. I was able to bring my credit score from a 502 to 804, purchase a vehicle, and now I'm in the process of trying to buy my home."

*FAQ: What’s the difference between a credit freeze and setting up a fraud alert through the credit bureaus?
The main difference between a credit freeze and a fraud alert is that a credit freeze prevents access to your credit report, preventing new credit from being opened without your authorization, while a fraud alert informs creditors to take extra steps to verify your identity before approving credit. To set up a fraud alert, you will only need to contact one credit bureau, and the others will be notified – unlike a freeze where you must contact all three bureaus. Fraud alerts also expire after a year, unless you place an extended alert which is valid for five years.
